Minister John Long

John Kevin Long was born on September 1, 1961, in Rockingham County, North Carolina.   He is the son of Joseph and Mattie Johnson Long.  He is also the grandson of the late Deacon John H. and Annie Mitchell Long and Allen “Brown” and Ellen Coleman Johnson.

John joined the High Rock Baptist Church at an early age. While he was  raised by his parents, his grandparents, uncles, and aunts have played important roles in his life.

John is the husband of Sharon Echols Long.  He is the father of two sons: John Kervin Long (Wife, Natasha) and   Jo’Bryant Kevin Long; adopted daughter, Tiffany L. Echols; and godson, Jhabaria Johnson.  He is the grandfather of Na’Sha Inez Long, John’nae Kiera Long and Tyjha Echols.

John is a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School.  He started his career working for Dan River Mills and Culp Upholstery Prints.  In February 2004, he went to work for AW North Carolina as a level 2 and was later promoted to team leader.  He received his apprenticeship certificate from Durham Technical Community College.  Before leaving AW due to illness, John’s co-workers formed a prayer team.  Every Wednesday, they would get together and pray for him – Prayer does change things!

John’s love for his community and desire to help the youth is quite evident.  John coached basketball for the Highrock Elementary School from 1985 -1990 and served as a coach volunteer for the Caswell County Recreation Basketball League for two years.  Among many awards and accolades, he received an Outstanding Coaching Award.

We look forward to the service from this soldier in the Lord’s Army.
